Preparing for professional licensure

The Minnesota Government Engineering Council (MGEC) ended years of providing Graduate Engineers with a PE Review Class that assisted individuals obtain their Professional Engineer (PE) license. For many years that class met the need of young engineers from public and private employers. Other much more expensive courses exist. Immediately, MAPD responded by providing group tuition to the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) PE Civil exam review course for ten MGEC and MAPD members.

Professional Ethics Continuing Education – being scheduled Winter/Spring 2024

When the Minnesota legislature required continuing education in ethics, MAPD was one of the first organizations to offer a seminar and later webinar in Professional Ethics tailors to engineering. Since other organizations have followed. In preparation for the latest seminar offered through MAPD, instructor Justin Weinberg explained, “Because their work directly affects the health, safety, and welfare of the public, engineers and planners have a responsibility to adhere to the highest principles of ethical conduct.” In this two-hour course, attendees reviewed 10 commonly encountered ethical dilemmas and their appropriate solutions. For example, the course explored the following scenarios:

You are working for a public client and they direct you to take an action you do not believe is in the best interests of the public. What duties do you have to the public and to your client?
You work for the county and your brother owns property in the adjoining county that will benefit from an action you will be involved in for your employer. What are your responsibilities?
The course meets the ethics-related training requirements for both licensed engineers and certified planners.
